Remedial Massage therapy is the therapeutic treatment of soft tissues including muscles, ligaments and tendons by means of massage. Massage promotes deep relaxation and reduces stress, relaxing the muscles and relieving tension. It can help with back pain, neck and shoulder problems, headaches and migraines, joint and muscle pain, sciatica, stress related aches and pains, RSI, and abdominal problems, for example cramps and constipation.
Vigorous exercise can leave muscles feeling sore and stiff, and Sports Massage can help to stretch and lengthen shortened muscles, reducing pain and spasms. It is beneficial pre and post event as well as during training, maintaining muscle condition and helping with injury prevention and recovery. Sports massage is not just for sport or serious athletes, it is suitable for any sporting injury, from a chronic condition or general wear and tear from daily life. It can help with tendonitis, muscle strains and ligament sprains, enabling muscles to work more efficiently. Sports massage can help with frozen shoulder, tennis / golfers elbow, shin splints, rotator cuff injuries leading to shoulder restrictions, compartment syndrome, ligament sprains, plantar fasciitis and iliotibial band friction syndrome.
Massage treatments last for 45 minutes. At your first visit a case history will be taken including a discussion of your problems and your medical history. A variety of techniques will be used to relax, stretch and reinvigorate affected tissues helping to reduce pain and restore both health and mobility.
Massage therapy can, where necessary, be used alongside osteopathic treatment, and both therapies complement each other very well. Osteopaths are available within the clinic for both structural and cranial methods, treating adults, babies and children.
