WARRINGTON OSTEOPATHS, JOSE FERNANDEZ, Structual & Cranial Osteopathy

Registered Osteopath Jose Fernandez works within the Warrington Osteopaths Clinic situated in Warrington town centre.

Jose studied for five years at the College of Osteopaths and Keele University, and has undergone further training in the field of cranial osteopathy, with both the College of Osteopaths and the Upledger Institute. Introduced to manual therapy through massage more than a decade ago, Jose first trained in holistic massage at Bodymind Therapeutics before undertaking a one-year training course in remedial massage at Bury’s Northern Institute of Massage. This foundation gave Jose the basis for understanding how the body responded to ‘tension’ and it remains a core component in most of his treatments.

Osteopathy is a safe approach to health care which looks at the whole patient, not simply treating the problem but looking at all the factors contributing to the disturbed state of natural health. With a highly developed sense of touch to identify any points of weakness or strain throughout the body, the osteopath carries out treatment using manipulation, soft tissue stretching, rhythmic joint movements and gentle releasing techniques.

Cranial Osteopathy is a refined and subtle type of treatment which gently releases stresses and tension throughout the body, including the head, and is aimed not only at the relief of symptoms, but towards helping the body function better in all respects. It is useful for circulatory and digestive problems, aches & pains, neuralgia, tension and the inability to relax.

Jose uses both structural and cranial techniques to treat adults for musculoskeletal aches & pains, back & neck pain, migraine, whiplash, frozen shoulder, arthritic stiffness, rheumatic pain, sciatica & fibrositis. Osteopathy is also useful for circulatory and digestive problems - including during pregnancy, tension and the inability to relax.

As a keen sportsman himself, Jose is interested in osteopathy for sport, either to keep the body fit and supple, or to treat minor sports injuries such as muscle strains and ligament sprains, enabling the body to work more efficiently.

Back pain is very common among all ages and is one of the main reasons for absence from the workplace. It can be severe and debilitating and may not always occur immediately after injury, as the body is good at adapting to injuries and accommodating them. However the disruption to spinal mechanics can lead to a build up of strain, and tension over time, and often cause problems in other areas as well as the back.

Common contributors to back pain are occupational strain, where habitual bad back posture such as seating at computers or driving for long distances can place strain on areas of the spine and lead to back pain. Lifting heavy or awkward weights including babies, children and shopping can cause back strain, and if the back is already under stress from another cause, it may only take a small lifting strain to cause problems, usually at the weakest point in the spine. Jose delivers courses on manual handling and lifting to companies as part of their health & safety induction. Jose has studied Ergonomics, and is a qualified Workplace Assessor, and is happy to go into your workplace to assess your workstation, or your driving posture if driving causes you problems. As we get older falls are more likely to occur, and with increasing age the body tissues lose some of their flexibility and elasticity and are unable to recover as quickly from any trauma. This can lead to retention of strains which may aggravate existing problems and predispose to other illnesses.

Arthritis can occur in any joint causing swelling, aching and stiffness. It can cause lack of mobility and is debilitating.

On the first visit a full case history will be taken and the patient given an examination. Using a highly developed sense of touch 'palpation', any points of weakness or excessive strain throughout the body will be identified by the osteopath, who uses his hands to investigate the underlying causes of pain and to carry out treatment using a variety of manipulative techniques. These may include rhythmic joint movements, manipulation, soft tissue stretching and gentle releasing techniques depending on the most appropriate treatment for each individual patient.

To ensure the patient is comfortable during treatment, a cover will be supplied for any areas not being treated.
