Colon hydrotherapy or irrigation is a gentle way of eliminating toxins and clearing the bowel of unwanted matter. It is an infusion of warm, purified water that can help eliminate mucus, stored waste matter. It can help to rebalance the internal environment when stresses, food, drugs and excesses can influence the way in which the body reacts to overload.

The sigmoid colon forms the last part of the digestive tract. Its function is to absorb the water-soluble nutrients as well as synthesise certain vitamins. It is also a major player in the excretory system responsible for eliminating food and other wastes when the internal environment becomes unbalanced due to stress, food additives, certain drugs, smoking, excess alcohol - the repercussions can be felt through the body.

What can you expect to achieve?

Improved bowel function; clearer skin; more mental clarity and fewer headaches. Circulatory, immune, inflammatory and weight problems can also often improve with colonic treatments when accompanied by recommended diet and lifestyle changes. After treatment the bowel is better able to absorb nutrients and less likely to absorb enterotoxins.

Anyone suffering from irritable bowel system (IBS); Patients with chronic constipation; those wishing to embark on a detoxification program and patients with Candida and yeast infections. It can also benefit those who just want a please, relaxing experience.

The Colonic itself takes between 30-45 minutes during which time water will be gently introduced into the colon via the rectum whilst the therapist uses special massage techniques to stimulate the release of stored matter. Your modesty is preserved at all times.
You may feel some slight discomfort but the most important thing is to relax and to breathe deeply to aid the successful elimination of waste matter.

The highest standards of hygiene, rubber disposable gloves are worn throughout the treatment and only sterile or disposable equipment is used.

HOW MANY COLONIC TREATMENTS ARE NECESSARY?
This does depend upon the individual and advice will be given after your first treatment. It may vary from only one treatment to several spread out over a period of time, after which preventative or maintenance treatments may be recommended.

ARE THERE CIRCUMSTANCES WHEN COLONIC TREATMENT CANNOT BE PERFORMED?

Yes. Conditions such as active infections, active inflammation (such as diverticulitis, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis), a painful fissure or painful haemorrhoids mean treatment cannot be comfortably carried out until they are healed or in remission.

Diseases such as congestive heart disease, severe uncontrolled hypertension, severe anaemia, liver cirrhosis, kidney disease, severe haemorrhaging and colo-rectal carcinoma are also absolute contra-indications for treatment as are some physical conditions such as severe abdominal or inguinal hernias which cannot be easily reduced.
Treatments are also not performed during the first three months of pregnancy, and not at all during complicated pregnancies.
