This service is only for replacement of a broken laptop power socket. Prior to calling please verify the power socket is the problem by checking for the signs described below. Other faults are beyond the scope of this service and will be looked at only if the customer wishes and at extra cost. Signs indicating the connector might be faulty are:
1. The laptop wouldn’t power up unless the power lead is held in one position.
2. When the power lead is wiggled it makes or losses contact.
3. The laptop only runs on battery power.
4. The pin in the centre of the jack is loose, pushed in, broken or missing.
5. The whole connector is loose, pushed in, broken or missing.
6. Intermittent charging or battery wouldn't charge.
7. Sometimes when power is connected sparks come out or smells of burnt out.
8. The battery charge light (LED) flickers when the tip of the AC adapter moves.
9. The battery charge light wouldn't come on (lights up) when power is connected.
10. The screen flickers between bright and dim when the tip of the charger moves.
11. “Scratching” sound is coming from the DC socket when the power is connected
12. Jack broken because excessive pressure applied when plugging in or someone tripped over the power lead or laptop dropped and fallen down on socket while plugged in.
In the majority of the cases when a connector fails it either breaks into pieces or comes off the motherboard because of the pressure applied when plugging in or unplugging the DC power. Please have a look at the photo of repaired jack. It is easy to notice that the replacement connector is slightly different from to the original one and there is a visible nut outside. This type of connector proved to be more solid and robust. Large part of the connector’s contact surface is made of metal and it mounts to the case of the laptop. This way the pressure when connecting the power is taken by the laptop’s plastic chassis and not by the weaker motherboard. Since the link between the new connector and the motherboard is flexible it allows repairing laptops where the track from the board has come off and even if small pieces of the board around the connector had chipped off.
Most of the laptop makes and models repaired. Among those: Toshiba, Acer, HP (Hewlett-Packard), Compaq, Dell, IBM, Fujitsu Siemens, Samsung, LG, Sony, Packard Bell, NEC, Advent, Medion, Gateway, Patriot, Hi-Grade, Philips, Asus, Averatec, Gericom .... If your make is not listed it is very likely repairable as well. Please call.
Be advised that the repair process involves complete dismantling of the laptop and takes up to 3.5 hours (on average 2 hours).
